Paying It Forward with CURE

Paying It Forward with CURE

December 18, 2017

We are proud to become partners with CURE Childhood Cancer to provide monthly meals for the families admitted to the Aflac Cancer and Blood Disorders Center at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Partnering with CURE was not an arbitrary or light decision for us to make, but one of personal experience.

CURE Childhood Cancer is an Atlanta-based non-profit organization that places a loving arm around devastated families. They fund pediatric cancer research, provide assistance with transportation, emergency financial assistance, counseling and bereavement services amongst many others. Via the Open Arms Meals Program, CURE provides meals to the inpatient families and staff in the Aflac Center and Blood Disorders Center at both locations of CHOA. It is through this program that PONKO would like to make its contribution.

Britain Levi Willis

2013 - Age 2

We have walked through pediatric cancer with Britain Levi Willis, the son of our baker Arin Willis (Antoine) and the grandson of co-owner Maggie Antoine. Britain was diagnosed with Stage IV Liver cancer when he was just two years old and underwent treatment at Egleston and Scottish Rite. We have spent sleepless nights, uttered countless prayers and experienced the unimaginable pain of a cancer diagnosis within the walls of the Aflac Cancer Center. Through it all, CURE was there for our family and still is. We could not be more certain that this is the organization to stand with.

Now on the other side of our grief, we would like to lend our support to the families who are still fighting in the hospital by providing monthly meals to the families and staff in the Aflac Cancer Center. In addition to this, a portion of every PONKO CakeCup that is purchased by you, our loyal customers, will go to CURE Childhood Cancer as they continue their great work with families across the nation affected by childhood cancer. (effective from December 14, 2017 through January 31, 2018)

We could not be more grateful for the dedicated personnel and volunteers of CURE, and nurses, doctors and staff of CHOA that took such great care of us in our time of need. Our family and our business want to make a difference in the lives of those who are still affected by pediatric cancer- something we believe deserves much more attention, funding and research.
